Raisins, U.S. Thompson, Select
History points to 1873 as the year in which
raisins first appeared by accident, when a massive heat wave dried the grapes on the vine and farmers were forced to market them or go bankrupt! Ongoing research on
raisins shows that they contain an antioxidizing agent which is proving beneficial in the prevention of intestinal tumours and other disease.
To maintain optimum freshness, keep
raisins sealed in an air-tight container in the refrigerator or in your coolest storage area.
Raisins also freeze well for long periods of time and thaw quickly at room temperature.
Raisins are subjected to minimal processing, being simply dried on the vine, washed, dried again, sorted for sizing and boxed.
In 1876, Scottish immigrant William Thompson grew a seedless grape that was thin-skinned, sweet and tasty. Today, 95% of the California crop is produced from the Thompson variety. Healthwise, the versatile
raisin contains phyto-chemicals and are a good source of iron, calcium, vitamins A and C, and dietary fibre. No added ingredients.
