While I know most smoothie lovers usually use fresh or frozen fruit, reconstituting dried fruit is another great alternative, especially in the winter months when fresh fruit is hard to find and can be very expensive.
The other benefit to using dried fruit is that you can buy in bulk (wholesale ordering is coming up soon!) and keep it for the year to use as you need it.
Dried fruit can also help to reduce food waste from spoilage.
We hope you enjoy this bright and flavourful smoothie!
Mango & Fig Smoothie
- 3-4 pieces organic dried mango
- 2 Black Mission figs
- 1 orange
- 15 almonds
- pinch of salt
Remove the hard tips from the figs, rip the mango slices into a few pieces and soak both in a cup of water in the fridge overnight.
Place almonds in their own bowl with enough water to cover and soak overnight in the fridge.
Place the soaked fruit in the blender with the water they were soaking in. Rinse the almonds well, discarding the water, and add to blender with the peeled orange and a pinch of salt. Add one more cup of water and blend on high until smooth.
Makes about 700 ml of smoothie.
