Fall harvest and production

Posted by & filed under article.

The end of October always marks an exciting time in the fall harvest! As the weather gets colder, we work hard to deliver you the seasonal quality that you have come to expect from us. Our warehouse is currently abuzz as our team gears up to pack and ship your orders of nuts, seeds and dried fruit from across Canada and beyond.

We’d like to take the opportunity to share with you a behind-the-scenes look at this season’s production activity. Our dedicated team members have been working so hard to meet deadlines, and we thought it was time to share their stories and give them the credit they deserve. We quite literally couldn’t do what we do without their tireless efforts.

On the Line

Our production line is ramping up as the new crop is arriving daily by the truckload! Every fall harvest it takes over forty people working together at our facility to bring to you the Best of the New Crop.

Here’s a look at the first production line with our newly redesigned pouch bags! We were packaging the also new organic pumpkin powder, in addition to our well-known and loved organic pumpkin seeds. All of this product comes from the same sixth-generation family farm in Austria that we’ve been working with for many years now. They grow their pumpkin seeds of outstanding quality via sustainable methods, utilizing both renewable energy and renewable resources.

We also strive to be low-waste and reduce our footprint whenever possible. This means that we are committed to using our remaining stock of bags and packaging, so you may see both our old-style and new-style bags when you receive your order!

(Above) Ann, who is now on her third season with us, packages our organic pumpkin seeds. She also helps us out in the office when it comes time to ship out orders!

(Below) Our Mexican mangoes are a long-time customer favourite and this year’s crop is guaranteed to satisfy! Here, Nancy is preparing the mangoes and getting ready to put them into our new pouches!

(Below) Don’t you think that these mixed-nuts bags are packaged just perfectly for the coming gift-giving season? We think they’re so cute! Pictured here is Shanda (who’s been working with us for 20 years!). She is putting the finishing touches on the bags by adding the bows before they’re allocated for the Gourmet Gift Baskets and boxes of 10 Fancy Gift Bags. Also pictured is a few of the hundreds of Sweet & Salty Nut Mix gifts we make each season.

(Below) If you follow us on social media, you may remember seeing a feature on Ashley, who’s been working with us for four years now in both the warehouse and office. Thanks to Ashley, we also now have her mother-in-law Connie as part of the team, who is also pictured and is now in her third season with us

(Below) Meet Heather: she is in her seventh season with us! Here, she is working in the allocation and staging area for product distribution within our warehouse.

In the Warehouse

In the photo below is Dave, who has been working for us for 10 years! In this shot, he’s unloading some of our organic Thompson raisins, along with almost an entirely organic truckload shipment of peaches, pears, oranges, roasted salted pistachios, mangoes and our conventional dried pineapples and mangoes as well! We wish you could smell these photos… as they were unpacked, the fruity aroma absolutely filled our warehouse!

(Below) Dave is looking over the numbers and checking them twice after unloading all that organic fruit. Now begins the paperwork and our all-important quality control sampling process.

(Below) Simon Vignola is seen below, checking out the warehouse as shelves start to fill with the new crop harvest!

Looks so good! Do you know if you’ll be headed out to Steinbach this year, with everything happening? We look forward to this time of year when you do. 😁

Unfortunately the Steinbach Harvest Sale will not be happening this year. You can find our full Harvest Sale details on our website here: https://www.ranchovignola.com/harvest-sales.php
However, our online ordering will begin on December 1st, and we offer free shipping on orders over $100! One of the benefits to ordering online vs. going to the community Harvest Sales is that we offer our entire product line online, about 1/3rd more options to choose from!
Please let me know if you have any further questions. 🙂

Hi Shirley, thanks for inquiring! As a seasonal business specializing in new crop products, we’re only open and accept orders at certain times of the year. We start the harvest season with a wholesale pre-ordering period where people place bulk pre-orders for the new crop with us in September. We then order with our farmers and suppliers and begin importing and packaging the products (what we’re doing now!) during the months of October and November. Once we have the majority of products are in, we fulfill and ship the wholesale pre-orders first, throughout the month of November. After wholesale pre-orders have been fulfilled we open ordering again on December 1st that has no minimum order requirements like wholesale, and as products are already in stock we can prepare orders much more quickly. However we do not have a store front and are primarily an online business, so we do ask that orders are placed in advance of pick up and we will contact you once it’s ready. Since we’re in our busy harvest season right now we are generally open Monday – Friday, but it’s best to contact us in advance as our hours do vary. If you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to call our office and we’d be happy to chat with you! 250-546-3343 (We’ll be back in the office on Monday)

Hi Jaime, I checked your order and we’re still waiting on two products to arrive to be able to fulfill it. As you ordered very early during our wholesale pre-ordering period we will be prioritizing the shipment of your order as soon as we have all the products you ordered. I estimate we will be able to complete your order around mid November, and we’ll try to get it out ASAP. If you have any other questions let me know!

We are wondering when we can expect delivery of our nuts here in Perth, ON? I would like to leave a different telephone number from the original one. My daughter will be living in our home. She will accept the delivery but would like notice, please call close to your delivery date, 613-797-4257. Her name is Amelia.

Hi Susan, I checked your order and we’re still waiting on some products to arrive to be able to fulfill it. Orders are shipped in the sequence we receive them, pending product availability, not based on where they’re being sent to. As you ordered early in September we will be prioritizing the shipment of your order as soon as we have the products in that you ordered. To change and discuss shipping details we’ll need to touch base to go over the shipment options that the couriers offer. I have sent an email to our staff to contact you next week once they’re back in the office. You can also contact us at 250-546-3343. Thanks for ordering with us!

Hi Ron, we’re happy to have people pick up their orders from our Armstrong facility, regardless of it they qualify for free shipping or not! We still ask that orders be placed in advance as we do not have a store front to sell out of, we will then contact you when the order is ready to go.
We will have pecans this year, however they have not yet arrived at our facility, though the conventional varieties are currently on route!
Please let me know if you have any further questions!

I placed my order from Toronto ON, but one of my daughters is studying in the Yukon and really looking forward to some dried fruits and nuts. I was wondering if it would be possible to have some of the items from my order shipped directly to her instead of me shipping her stuff after it arrives in Toronto. Thanks for considering this request.
