It’s an exciting year for new products at Rancho Vignola, especially in our baking category! We are very pleased to introduce Organic Cocoa Powder, Organic Hemp Seed Protein Powder and Organic Pumpkin Seed Protein Powder – perfect for healthy, high-protein baked treats. Stay tuned for recipe inspiration in the coming weeks.
We also have some great new dried fruit products, including Organic Sultana Raisins, Organic Smyma Figs, and Organic Persimmons. Our team is especially excited to have found a great family farm to supply us with the dried persimmons, a great healthy and delicious snack. You will also notice a number of new products that are replacing similar products from last year, such as the Organic Pineapple being from a new source. Lastly, we also want to highlight our conventional, shelled raw pistachios; these little green gems offer exceptional value! Keep reading below for full descriptions of all of our new products:
New this year! From our conventional pistachio supplier we bring to you raw shelled pistachio kernels. Shelled pistachios have leapt into popularity in the last few years due to their versatility, and as more people give them a try and love them. Raw pistachios are a treat on their own or add them to salads, stir fries or baked goods. The options are almost endless!
Pistachios are rich in fibre, thiamin, vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin B6, vitamin E, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, copper, selenium, zinc and manganese. They provide a high source of protein, up to six grams per serving, and contain the highest amount of potassium available from all nut varieties. They’re also an excellent source of copper which aids the absorption of iron in the body. When eaten on a regular basis, pistachios contribute to lowering LDL cholesterol and reduce the process of glycation. Pistachios are a smart choice when managing weight due to low calories, high protein, low saturated fat and high unsaturated fat.
Our organic diced bananas are naturally and deliciously sweet and chewy. They’re packed with banana flavour and are a very tasty addition to granola, snack mixes, baked goods and as a topper for many breakfast meals or desserts.
Like their fresh counterpart, dried bananas are an excellent source of dietary fibre, potassium, magnesium, copper, manganese and vitamin B6, along with a slew of other nutrients and benefits to your dietary health.
New this year! We’re very happy to once again be offering Turkish-grown Smyrna figs! Did you know that Turkey is the world leader in fig production, producing nearly 30% of the global supply? They sure know what they’re doing when it comes to figs!
Smyrna figs are a variety of golden fig that is widely known and loved. Figs are a delicious and nutritious common ingredient in baking, and are often added to breakfast cereals and salads for their complex sweet flavour. Figs are also used on charcuterie boards and they’re a cheese tray staple, although many people simply enjoy them as a snack.
Figs are very nutritious and are well known for having a variety of health benefits. These delicious morsels are packed with dietary fibre, vitamin K, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, manganese and omega-6 fatty acids.
You may notice as the figs age some of the natural sugars rise to the surface of the dried fruit and creates a white coating – this is a perfectly normal and harmless effect called sugaring. You can reduce the amount of sugaring that happens during storage by keeping your figs in the freezer. Some people say they notice a texture change upon thawing, though most don’t notice any changes. Due to their sugar content, figs don’t freeze hard and can be eaten right out of the freezer as a cool treat!
New this year! From our organic ginger supplier we bring to you a new cut style of candied ginger. Now in a more convenient snacking form.
Ginger is widely used to ease nausea and reduce inflammation. It’s known for its pleasantly warming, pungent flavour and aroma. Our organic candied ginger has more heat than our conventional variety for those who prefer their ginger with a bit more oomph.
New this year! We’re very excited about this new addition to our line of dried fruit. We’ve sourced these dried persimmons from a small organic family farm in California that grows and processes their own persimmons. While persimmons aren’t as well known outside of Asian countries, where they’re quite popular, we think they’re so good they should become a regular household staple here too!
If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of trying dried persimmons, you can imagine them as a blend of mango and papaya with a hint of apricot and vanilla. With a fruit-leather type texture, their sweet fruity flavour and bright colour make them both beautiful to look at and a treat to eat. While the sample we received was quickly gobbled up as is, they can also be chopped up and added to your baked goods, granolas or anything you can imagine!
Our organic natural dried pineapple rings are sweet, chewy and packed with pineapple flavour. They’re delicious as is or can be chopped into trail mixes and baked goods. Pineapple has even been known to replace the pectin in jam, due to its coagulating properties.
Pineapple contains similar digestive enzymes to its tropical cousin the papaya, and is loaded with vitamin C. Two medium slices provides nearly 80% RDV of manganese, aiding in bone strength. Dried pineapple also contains bromelain, aiding in digestion and having anti-inflammatory properties.
New this year! Sultana raisins are made from dried green seedless grapes. When the grapes are dried, they maintain a beautiful light golden brown colour, with a typical raisin flavour profile.
Sultana raisins can be used in place of other raisins in recipes, with colour being the biggest difference. Raisins are the most popular dried fruit we sell, and for good reason: not only are they delicious but are also incredibly versatile and relatively inexpensive.
To maintain optimum freshness, keep raisins sealed in an airtight container in the refrigerator or in your coolest storage area. Raisins also freeze well for long periods of time and thaw quickly at room temperature.
New this year! Hemp is a truly versatile plant that packs a serious nutritional punch. Our hemp powder is a complete and balanced plant-based source of amino acids, essential fatty acids, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, fibre and chlorophyll. It also contains large amounts of iron, zinc and magnesium. It is a very easily digestible source of protein and has an earthy, almost nutty flavour.
Perfect for those looking to add more plant-based protein to their diet, you can simply add this powder to your smoothies or mix it into juice or protein shakes. It can also be used in many baking recipes at a 25% hemp to 75% traditional flour ratio to increase the nutritional density and protein content.
New this year! Our new organic pumpkin seed powder comes from our amazing pumpkin seed supplier in Austria. It’s made from very finely ground Styrian pumpkin seeds and is produced with renewable energy.
Our pumpkin seed powder boasts an impressive 65% protein content, along with a very mild flavour and fine texture. If you’ve tried other plant-based proteins before and found them too strong in taste, this one is the one for you! Perfect for those looking to add more plant-based protein to their diet, you can simply add this powder to your smoothies or mix it into juice or protein shakes. It can also be used in many baking recipes at a 25% pumpkin to 75% traditional flour ratio to increase the nutritional density and protein content.
New this year! We bring to you Dutch-processed cocoa powder, ideal for your baking and recipe needs. Cocoa powder is a staple in most kitchens. Need to whip up a batch of brownies? Chocolate almond milk? Your own home-made chocolates? Cocoa powder has your back!
Our cocoa powder is treated with an alkali to neutralize the acidity and bitterness, raising the pH levels to create a smooth chocolatey flavour and deep, rich colour. Dutch-processed cocoa powder dissolves well into liquids, and is a widely used ingredient for both baking and beverages. Cocoa powder contains several minerals, including calcium, copper, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and zinc.
Did you know that cocoa powder is what remains after cocoa beans have been processed and the cocoa butter (the fat component) has been extracted? The remaining solids are then further dried and ground into a fine powder and voilà: you now have cocoa powder! As such, cocoa powder is the core of a chocolate’s flavour, without the fat, sugar or dairy getting in the way.
Three varieties of gourmet chocolate-covered almonds and our Gourmet Chocolate Nut Mix packed into a divided, clear acetate container.
