You’ll often hear people talk about how quick and easy they are to make and the never-ending variety of flavour combinations.
Most smoothies are made with a fruit and berry base, sometimes with fresh greens added in, which is generally thought of as a warm-weather flavour combination.
This smoothie is quite different in that regard.
The taste of dates and spices brings out the feeling of winter as you sip on it, but don’t let your thoughts get too cold!
Spiced Date Smoothie
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 1 cup milk (optional)
- 1 cup pitted Medjool dates
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ⅛ tsp cinnamon
- pinch ground cloves
- 2 cups ice
Directions: If you like a thick smoothie, don’t add any milk at first, add bit by bit to adjust to your preference as you are blending.
Place all the ingredients in a blender and blend on high until well-combined. Check every 30 seconds or so, as the dates do take a bit longer than fresh fruit to break down smoothly.
Serves two to four.
