Fall harvest and production

October 30, 2020

The end of October always marks an exciting time in the fall harvest! As the weather gets colder, we work hard to deliver you the seasonal quality that you have come to expect from us. Our warehouse is currently abuzz as our team gears up to pack and ship your orders of nuts, seeds and dried fruit from across Canada and beyond.

We’d like to take the opportunity to share with you a behind-the-scenes look at this season’s production activity. Our dedicated team members have been working so hard to meet deadlines, and we thought it was time to share their stories and give them the credit they deserve. We quite literally couldn’t do what we do without their tireless efforts.

On the Line

Our production line is ramping up as the new crop is arriving daily by the truckload! Every fall harvest it takes over forty people working together at our facility to bring to you the Best of the New Crop.

Here’s a look at the first production line with our newly redesigned pouch bags! We were packaging the also new organic pumpkin powder, in addition to our well-known and loved organic pumpkin seeds. All of this product comes from the same sixth-generation family farm in Austria that we’ve been working with for many years now. They grow their pumpkin seeds of outstanding quality via sustainable methods, utilizing both renewable energy and renewable resources.

We also strive to be low-waste and reduce our footprint whenever possible. This means that we are committed to using our remaining stock of bags and packaging, so you may see both our old-style and new-style bags when you receive your order!

(Above) Ann, who is now on her third season with us, packages our organic pumpkin seeds. She also helps us out in the office when it comes time to ship out orders!

(Below) Our Mexican mangoes are a long-time customer favourite and this year’s crop is guaranteed to satisfy! Here, Nancy is preparing the mangoes and getting ready to put them into our new pouches!

(Below) Don’t you think that these mixed-nuts bags are packaged just perfectly for the coming gift-giving season? We think they’re so cute! Pictured here is Shanda (who’s been working with us for 20 years!). She is putting the finishing touches on the bags by adding the bows before they’re allocated for the Gourmet Gift Baskets and boxes of 10 Fancy Gift Bags. Also pictured is a few of the hundreds of Sweet & Salty Nut Mix gifts we make each season.

(Below) If you follow us on social media, you may remember seeing a feature on Ashley, who’s been working with us for four years now in both the warehouse and office. Thanks to Ashley, we also now have her mother-in-law Connie as part of the team, who is also pictured and is now in her third season with us

(Below) Meet Heather: she is in her seventh season with us! Here, she is working in the allocation and staging area for product distribution within our warehouse.

In the Warehouse

In the photo below is Dave, who has been working for us for 10 years! In this shot, he’s unloading some of our organic Thompson raisins, along with almost an entirely organic truckload shipment of peaches, pears, oranges, roasted salted pistachios, mangoes and our conventional dried pineapples and mangoes as well! We wish you could smell these photos… as they were unpacked, the fruity aroma absolutely filled our warehouse!

(Below) Dave is looking over the numbers and checking them twice after unloading all that organic fruit. Now begins the paperwork and our all-important quality control sampling process.

(Below) Simon Vignola is seen below, checking out the warehouse as shelves start to fill with the new crop harvest!
