Wild harvesting nettles, smoothie recipe and cooking inspiration!

Posted by & filed under article, recipe.

One of the sure signs of spring for me, besides more sunshine, is the sight of young nettle plants coming up.

Stinging nettle is one of my favourite wild plants to harvest. It is the first edible spring green that I like to forage for and it is delicious! Nettle season is now upon us here in the Okanagan, and folks at the Coast have been enjoying nettle for weeks already.

March is here, the ski season is over halfway done and I’m currently midway through a trip in central Europe, gearing up for another few weeks of international racing! This winter has so far been an amazing whirlwind of racing, recovery and travel. The season kicked off in December with some NorAm (national-level) races at Silver Star and Rossland, BC.

Posted by & filed under article.

With Christmas just around the corner, the days are becoming full of bright lights and bold colours, so it’s only fitting that our product of the month for December also stands out, not only by colour but also by taste.

While mangoes don’t necessarily make us think of singing carols or roasting chestnuts, they are certainly enjoyed year-round by millions worldwide.

Golden, sun-kissed and vibrant are words that are not commonly used to describe the month of November, which is why we here at Rancho thought it was only fitting to provide you with a little relief from the dreary grey of fall in the form of our product of the month: sunflower seeds!

The ultimate snack food, the number of nutrients packed inside these little kernels is vast.

Countdown to race season, by Rancho-sponsored athlete Dahria Beatty

Posted by & filed under article, recipe.

“My summer of training has been mostly dry-land training such as roller skiing, running and biking in and around Canmore, Alberta, but highlighted by a three-week, on-snow training camp in August at Snow Farm in New Zealand. Starting in May, the first few months of summer training are focused on building up our aerobic base, overall strength and stability. This means lots of long workouts mixed with sprints and controlled interval work, as well as specific work in the weight room.

Pumpkin seeds: Rancho’s product of the month

Posted by & filed under article, recipe.

Welcome, October! Now that it is officially fall, it’s time to shift our focus to all things autumn. The nights are becoming cooler, the leaves are beginning to slip from the trees, and it’s time to break out those favourite harvest-time foods.

One of my go-to snacks, raw, roasted or salted, hulled or in-shell, there’s a variety of pumpkin seed for everyone out there.

Cranberries: Rancho’s product of the month

With autumn just around the corner, it only seems fitting that this month we feature a Thanksgiving dinner staple: the cranberry!

Small yet powerful, cranberries, also known as Vaccinium macrocarpon, bear berries, mossberries or fenberries, are small, round, ruby-coloured berries that pack a punch.
