Rancho Vignola had the honour to meet and spend an afternoon recently with the supplier of our delicious organic pumpkin seeds, Rainer Schalk, CEO of Schalk-Muehle.

In Canada for the CHFA West Trade Show and Conference in Vancouver, we were delighted that he drove to Armstrong to visit us, tour the Rancho Vignola facility and enjoy lunch.

Hemp seeds: Rancho product of the month

This month’s star of our show is the wonderfully tasty and nutritious hemp seed.

You may also be familiar with the terms “hemp seed hearts” and “hemp nuts.”

Hemp seeds make an excellent addition to salads, mixed with yogurt, added to smoothies and even used as a dairy-free milk alternative!

Chef Heidi Fink’s cooking class ~ Flavours of the Exotic

Visiting one of Chef Heidi Fink’s cooking classes can be a little bit like taking a trip to an exotic country.

In fact the class, which was held Saturday, February 25, in Victoria’s London Chef Cooking School, and co-sponsored by Rancho Vignola, was appropriately entitled Flavours of the Exotic and featured the sort of unique dishes you’d find in far-off lands!

I’ve been enjoying a magnesium-rich, high-protein smoothie this winter, and it’s the first time I’ve found something that doesn’t spike my blood sugar but keeps me full and satisfied until at least lunchtime!

When I woke up this morning the thermometer told me it was -28˚C outside, brrr!

Digging through my recipes for something hot, satisfying, delicious and easy to make for dinner, I remembered this recipe, which fits the bill perfectly.

If you have a hankering for soup, give this recipe a try.

I’ve made it a few times now and have never been disappointed!

Merry Christmas!

Once again we have closed up shop for the year! The warehouse is silent and our hard-working team has taken off on a variety of holiday adventures.

Most have gone home to their families, but hopefully they’re all getting outside and enjoying that beautiful Okanagan winter sunshine! The time off is very much deserved.

The warehouse is alive with the pitter-patter of work boots, the swoosh of our aprons and hairnets, the hum of the equipment and the chatter of our valued staff.

As we close in on the end of our final Harvest Sale of the year, our staff, friends and families have once again gathered for our annual Donation Day.

Harvest SalesNovember has come and gone, and with it the annual Harvest Sales. We have spent the last month hosting events throughout British Columbia, Alberta and at the newly-added Steinbach, Manitoba, venue!

As in previous years, the Harvest Sales were a smashing success, and we are happy to have reconnected with our customers. Being a seasonal and primarily online business, it’s always a pleasure to meet and chat with all of the great people who attend our sales.

The cool and humid temperatures of various parts of North America make the flax plant an ideal crop. It is easy to grow, with the right soil and right conditions, as it doesn’t require a lot of fertilizer or pesticides.
